A note from David
Dear Sangha,
I hope this finds you safe, healthy, and supported by your practice in these intense times. The ongoing Covid crisis, heightened focus on racial injustice, and a fast-approaching presidential election—to name just a few things—are more than enough to push our minds off-balance, out of the present. May we all remember to pause and feel an in-breath, and then an out-breath.
If you are a regular at IMT’s weekly sangha gatherings, you probably noticed that I’ve been mostly absent since May. Some of you know that, earlier this summer, my family and I spent a month on the east coast to support my mother who was dealing with a health issue. While we were there, it became clear we want to be closer to her, and so in early October we will be moving to Vermont. Because we will be so far from Tucson, and because I will be focusing more deeply on family, I have also made the difficult decision to step down from IMT teaching and leadership.
The dharma is always present, even in the midst of changes large and small. The practices to which we devote ourselves, and which we explore together in sangha, are right here: here in this moment of life; here in this community; and here in the steady leadership of Anna and Terry. The constant presence of the dharma is the most important thing.
In my years with IMT, Anna and Terry have been incomparable partners and teachers for me, and I am very grateful to them both. I have sat with dozens of teachers—primarily at Spirit Rock and Insight Meditation Society—and my confidence that the teachings Anna and Terry bring forth are deeply rooted in the profound teachings of the Buddha has only grown over time. I feel mudita for the IMT community for it’s rare blessing to have two skilled, caring teachers with whom to practice the dharma.
I feel very honored to have practiced together with you! May you continue to walk the dharma path, courageously and open-heartedly meeting each moment, as best you can, just as it is.
Yours in the dharma,
David
