Disentangling the Tangle

A seeker asked the Buddha: “A tangle within, a tangle without, people are entangled in a tangle. Gotama, I ask you this:
who can untangle this tangle?”

Our dysfunctional cultural conditioning often keeps us unconsciously tangled in cycles of suffering. This is being revealed once again on the streets where poor black and brown people struggle to survive. As white people dedicated to understanding more deeply the roots of suffering in ourselves, we are committed to educating ourselves on the reality of white supremacy and systemic racism, and how we are often unwittingly adding to the injustices we condemn. This is largely un-conscious in most white people.

Through our practice of mindful awareness and deep reflection, we can seek to liberate ourselves from mistaken assumptions and misperceptions which cause harm. We look to teachings of non-harming and compassion for all to show us the path we must walk. We do this in community and solidarity with all who wish to meet the current moment with courage and wisdom.

The leadership of IMT is dedicated to the principles of inclusivity and equality among all who practice the Dharma. We strive to create a safe and welcoming and accessible space for people of all races, classes, genders, sexual orientation, ages and physical abilities.

Please share the information below with friends. It will help to activate our conversation about race, racism and white supremacy.

May our suffering be the cause for liberation!
