with Spirit Rock teacher Anna Douglas, Ph.D.
Transform your experience of aging with insight meditation.
It is well documented that there are many changes of the body and brain with aging. The good news is that the practice of mindfulness offsets many of these changes and gives us a different experience of aging, characterized by increased contentment as well as the wisdom of years. The teachings of the insight meditation tradition offer a rich trove of practices and resources to help us gain confidence in meeting this new stage of life. We may discover a change in our priorities, with less compulsion to achieve, a keener awareness of the preciousness of life, gratitude for what is here and now, and compassion for our shared humanity.
The class will include instructions in mindfulness, wisdom teachings, experiential exercises, and group discussion. We will look at the latest research revealing the beneficial effects of meditation on the functioning of the body and the brain, and learn to apply this knowledge in our practice.
