A Day of Simplicity - Daylong

"Do you make regular visits to yourself?"
                                         ~ Rumi

Complicated. Frenzied. Over-Scheduled. Multi-Everything. Perhaps these words describe how your life feels. The commitments of life push and pull us in many directions. Add to this the myriad distractions that call to our attention, and we may feel a need to slow down, pare down, sit down.

The Buddhist practice of Insight Meditation helps to simplify where we place our energy. In describing meditation, Buddhist nun Ayya Santacitta said, “The simplicity of being a body, letting go of thoughts of everything else. An invitation to simply sitting and letting go. Knowing that you’re breathing in when you’re breathing in, and knowing that you’re breathing out when you are breathing out.”

In this day of practice, we will use the Buddha’s teaching on the First Foundation of Mindfulness––Mindfulness of the Body––as a way to simplify our meditation practice. Through guided meditation, teachings, and mindful inquiry, we will see the effect of letting go of complexity, and simply and directly feeling the body that is always here.

Bring whatever sitting gear supports you and please bring your lunch to offer continuity of practice. You are welcome to bring a snack or tea to share. A refrigerator and a microwave will be available.
