All of our sense experience—seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, body sensation, and cognizing—carries a tone (or vedana) of pleasant, unpleasant, or neutral. When unrecognized, the mind quickly moves to clinging, rejecting, or ignoring. This habitual tipping from vedana to suffering is workable. When an unpleasant sound, for example, is witnessed with receptive mindfulness, it isn’t experienced as “noise.” The Buddha’s teaching on vedana, the second foundation of mindfulness, holds the key to bypassing unnecessary suffering.
Join IMT dharma leader David Bornstein for a day of Insight Meditation practice, including sitting and walking meditation, dharma teaching, mindful inquiry, and Q&A.
There will be comfortable chairs, and you are also welcome to bring any sitting gear supports you (cushion, bench, blanket). There is a kitchen with refrigerator and microwave, and we will have drinking water and hot tea. Please bring your lunch, bottles for hot and cold beverages (to reduce waste), and you’re welcome to bring a snack to share. Potluck to follow!
